Abstract:
From April 2022 to June 2023, infrared cameras were used to monitor the diversity of birds and animals in the Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, Yunnan. The images of
Muntiacus gongshanensis were captured which represented the first record of this species from this area. To facilitate the identification of this species and other similar congeners in field, a morphological comparison was made between it and
M. vaginalis, another Muntjac species occurs sympatrically in the same region. The historical distribution area of
M. gongshanensis lies on the west side of the Lancang River, while this species is here reported from the east side of this river which is the easternmost record of this species. The above information presented in this paper is of great significance for studying the geographical distribution and species protection of
Muntiacus gongshanensis.
