Abstract:
From April 2022 to June 2023, infrared cameras were used to monitor the diversity of birds and animals in the Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, China. The images of
Muntiacus gongshanensis were captured, which was the first record of this species in this area. In order to facilitate the identification of this species and other similar congeners in the field, the morphological comparison was made between
M. gongshanensis and
M. vaginalis, another Muntjac species occured sympatrically in the same region. The historical distribution area of
M. gongshanensis was located on the west side of the Lancang River, and this discovery is located on the east side of this river, which is the easternmost distribution record of this species. The above findings are of great significance for studying the geographical distribution and species protection of
Muntiacus gongshanensis.
