Amphibian diversity in Liziping National Nature Reserve and its surrounding areas

  • In order to further understanding the resource distribution and species diversity and better protection of amphibians in Liziping National Nature Reserve and its surrounding areas, a field survey was conducted in June and September each year from 2020 to 2023. Based on the result of field survey and the data reported in literature, 17 species of amphibians were recorded, belonging to 14 genera, eight families and two orders. Compared with the report in 2007, four amphibian species (Scutiger tuberculatus, Oreolalax rugosus, Oreolalax schmidti, and Hyla gongshanensis chuanxiensis) were added, among which Scutiger tuberculatus was a new record species in the County. Moreover, 13 species belonged to the Oriental realm, and four were wide-spread species, 11 species were endemic to China, six species were threatened (Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable) in the China Biodiversity Red List. The G index (2.55) and F index (2.57) indicated a relatively high level of amphibian diversity within the area, and the Red List index (0.835) suggested that the overall threatened level was not high. In the end, some conservation measures were proposed according to the diversity, endangered and threatened situation of amphibians in this area.
