Phenotypic Variation of Ginkgo Leaves in Sichuan Native Land

  • Ginkgo biloba, as a relic plant, has a long history of cultivation in Sichuan. Analysis the differences in leaf phenotypic characteristics can provide materials and references for the selection of excellent germplasm resources of Ginkgo biloba. The phenotypic characteristics of Ginkgo biloba leaves from 14 provenances including Dayi County, Mingshan District, Chengdu City, Wanyuan City, and Dazhu County were analyzed through investigation of superior individual ginkgo biloba in Sichuan Province. The results showed that the differences in single leaf weight and leaf thickness among different provenances of G. biloba reached extremely significant level, with Qingchuan County performing better. Single leaf weight and leaf thickness were significantly higher than other provenances, and the provenance in Chengdu city performed worse. The number of leaves and the weight of the leaves on each branch reached extremely significant level (P<0.01), among which the provenance of Wutong Bridge was better than that of Mingshan District. The results of the determination of petiole length, leaf length and width, and leaf area showed that the provenance of Wanyuan City was the best and that of Chengdu City was the worst.
